A Bethesda native, Karen graduated from Holton-Arms. She earned a B.A. in English from Williams College and a M.A. in English from Boston College. Before moving to private tutoring, Karen taught English conversation in Japan for a year, 7th, 8th, and 9th grades for sixteen years at Holton-Arms and 6th and 8th grades from 2020-2022 at the Melvin J. Berman Hebrew Academy. Karen loves helping students adjust to new expectations as they enter middle school, prepare for high school, and begin high school.  Karen believes that every student can be successful and patiently tries multiple strategies until she finds the ones that work best for each student. Karen especially enjoys coaching students with their writing and boosting their confidence as readers.She is trained in Orton-Gillingham and the Science of Reading. She also can help students develop their executive functioning skills. 

Karen lives with her husband and two daughters, who both graduated from B-CC High School, in East Bethesda. Her older daughter completed the I.B. Diploma. In addition to tutoring, Karen works with the Bethesda Historical Society.  In her free time, she enjoys hiking, knitting, sewing, making jewelry, and, of course, reading.
